3 Start-Ups and Counting

So far we’ve given the nod to three start-ups who’ll now be pitching on the 12th.

The quality is high and they’re businesses offer very different services so the judges are going to have their work cut out to decide between them.

The venue is now confirmed as downstairs at Bluu on Broadway in the Lace Market, Nottingham.

Keep the one-page-pitches coming to me adam.bird@esendex.com, just 2 more slots available.

And in a slight change to the pitch criteria, extra points will be given to those start-ups that can include a photo of the most amusing/rude vegetable.

Nott Tuesday April – Event Report

Being the day after Easter Monday, this was always going to be a quieter affair. However even a last minute change of venue didn’t almost 30 Nott Tuesday regulars from meeting up.

Bluu provided a great substitute venue and I’m thinking this could be our venue going forward. Please leave your thoughts in the comments.

Nott Tuesday April - Phil Campbell discussing being sociable with media

The speaking slot was also very different to previous events. Phil Campbell ‘s talk turned into an interactive session on the merits and mechanics of being ‘sociable’ with your media.

Whereas previous ‘speakers’ had spoken, Phil engaged the attendees in a valuable discussion about his experiences with social media and how others could benefit.

This raised some interesting questions for me about the Nott Tuesday format. I welcome your thoughts, again in the comments, about how future sessions might be run. Should we try and have some more interactive discussions lead by experts? What topics would be of interest?

Nott Tuesday April - CJ Launches Media Camp Nottingham

Next up was CJ Lyon launching Media Camp Nottingham.

This is an innovative UnConference exploring the latest digital trends in:

  • Web design and development
  • Communications, branding, advertising and PR
  • Arts, media and culture
  • Games and virtual worlds
  • Digital media, blogging and social media.

Networking continued in the main bar at Bluu featuring much intense discussion on a wide range of topics, which for me stretched from business models for online gaming to the altitude sickness risks in Peru.

Looking forward to next month. See you all there, it’s going to be a biggie.

Berryman to sponsor Nott Tuesday May

Berryman logo

Really pleased to announce that Nottingham law firm Berryman have agreed to sponsor our May event. Their contribution will enable me to cover the costs of the event as well as some prizes for the participants.

Duncan James, Berryman’s Head of Business Services, will also be completing the judging panel. His particular specialism is MBOs, MBIs, business sales and purchases, rounding out the panel nicely.

Venue Change – Nott Tuesday April

Due to an administrative failure, Nott Tuesday will now not be held at Cape Bar tonight but will instead be downstairs at Bluu, 5 Broadway, Nottingham, NG1 1PR

Give me a call with any queries.

Sorry for the last minute change but I guess we get to try out a different venue. Who knows we might like it.

Please let everyone know.

Are You Nottingham’s Most Promising Tech Startup?

I can finally announce the revised format for Nott Tuesday May on the 12th at Bluu in the Lace Market, Nottingham from 18:30.

We’re going to have a tech start-up pitch competition to find Nottingham’s Most Promising Tech Start-up

The format will be simple:

  • 5 startups
  • Maximum 2 minutes to pitch
  • 2-3 mins Q&A with judging panel
  • Judges retire to deliberate
  • Winner announced

The Panel

The panel will consist of 3 very different judges, each experts in their field and with intimate knowledge of what it takes a start-up to succeed.

Mike Butcher – editor of TechCrunch Europe, the most influential web site covering technology start-ups in Europe. If it’s been started-up then Mike has probably seen it, he’s the man to know in the tech start-up space.

Doug Ashby – to you Nott Tuesday regulars, Doug will need no introduction. He’s been there, started from scratch, redefined an industry and sold out for millions.

Duncan James – Head of Business Services at Nottingham legal firm Berryman. Duncan’s particular specialism is MBOs, MBIs, business sales and purchases.

The Pitch

The judges are going to want to hear about

  • Problem
  • Solution
  • Competitor  / Market
  • Team
  • What you are looking for

Keep it simple, punchy and to the point. If you can get your message across in less than 2 minutes then do.

The Prize

Adulation, pitch practice, testing your ideas against some of the finest minds in tech entrepreneurism.

I’m keen to hear from any companies who would like to sponsor any of the costs of running the evening, If someone can come up with some prizes then all the better: adam.bird@esendex.com.

How to enter

Email me adam.bird@esendex.com with a max one page pitch. I, along with a panel, will select the 5 to present on May 12th.

Get the word out

I now throw the gauntlet down to all of you to spread the net far and wide on this one. We’ve had 2 very successful meetups so far, tonight should be no exception.

Call, email, tweet, text everyone you know. This is a huge opportunity to show the world just what is happening in Nottingham.

Journalists, if you’re reading this then get in touch (adam.bird@esendex.com). This is a real story, happening now, no government initiatives, just the private sector getting on with business and making Nottingham a success.

See you there

Adam
