I intimated that we’d have a strong follow up to Christian Payne‘s Social Media Freak Show and I’m pleased to announce we’ve delivered.
Professor of Digital Economy, Derek McAuley from The University of Nottingham will be speaking on the subject ‘Who’s data is it anyway’.
We are used to the idea of our “Digital Footprint” – those traces of our online activity that leave a record – some are concerned this has gone too far.
However, we are in a transition to a society in which ubiquitous computing makes recording of peoples physical activities, as well as their virtual ones, possible. How are we going to remain human in this society….
The talk will look as some of the technologies, how they might be used (for good and evil) and discuss approaches to creating businesses that can exploit them without trampling the citizen’s privacy under a corporate or government boot.
I reckon the panel session will take care of itself after that warm up.
So, to summarise:
18:30 – 20:30 at Bluu, Nottingham
Speaker: Derek McAuley – Who’s data is it anyway
Panel: topics raised
