Tues 9th March – Open Source: what is it and how can it benefit you

  • Ever wondered what all the fuss about open source software was?
  • Confused over how anyone can make any money from giving software away?
  • Like the idea of free software but not sure if you can trust it?

If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any of the above or indeed have any other questions about open source software then you need to be at Bluu in the Lace Market at 18:30 on Tuesday 9th March.

Antony Martin Director of Open Source Engineering at Dialogic will be sharing his knowledge and experiences to enable you to make the most of the open source community.

His talk will cover:

  • Free / open source software a short history
  • Licenses
  • Business models
  • Popular projects
  • Using open source software
  • Developing in open source
  • The benefits of open source

If that wasn’t enough then we also have Ryan O’Sullivan, Solicitor with the Commerce and Technology Unit at the national law firm Shoosmiths, sharing some real life experiences from clients who have fallen foul of open source licensing and how they extricated themselves.

And if that wasn’t enough, Dialogic have also kindly agreed to sponsor the food.

It promises to be really valuable evening and I look forward to seeing you all there.

18:30 – 20:30 at Bluu, Nottingham

Horizon Digital Economy Research sponsoring Feb Event

Really pleased to announce that Horizon Digital Economy Research are treating us to some food, including birthday cupcakes, on Tuesday.

Horizon is a Research Institute at the University Nottingham engaged in Digital Economy Research. This new venture represents an initial £40million investment by Research Councils UK, the University of Nottingham and over 40 academic and industrial partners in both a Research Hub and Doctoral Training Centre within the RCUK Digital Economy programme.

Huge thanks to them for this.
